As health care spending continues its unsustainable rise, there is growing pressure to incentivize increased quality and decreased costs. Value-based care models, which focus on the quality of care instead of the quantity of services, could address both of these issues. Shifting to a value-based approach, however, requires changes across the health care ecosystem—in financing and population health management as well as for payers and providers.

About the Presenter
Joe Kimura, MD, MPH is Chief Medical Officer of Atrius Health – a 750 physician independent multispecialty practice based in Boston, MA. He is an experienced leader of ambulatory care delivery system improvements particularly around the optimization of population health management tools in value based and accountable care settings.
Dr. Kimura is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Clinical Informatics. He has been a national advocate for the practical applications of health care analytics in health care delivery and improvement for over a decade. During the Obama Administration, he co-chaired the ONC HIT Federal advisory workgroup on Advanced Health Models and Meaningful Use. Dr. Kimura is also deeply committed to the acceleration of innovation to improve the health of our patients and communities. He is an active mentor to the New England healthcare technology startup community and serves an executive board member of the Yale University Center for Biomedical Innovation and Technology. Dr. Kimura was recognized as a Top 25 Clinical Informaticists by Modern Healthcare in 2012 and a leading CMIO experts by Health Data Management in 2016.
